The legal study is a program that provides students with principles and law-based knowledge enabling them to become legal professionals. In a developed country like India, law and its equivalent subjects are trained together to provide a thorough social vision. This is done to give the society the instrument of justice providers called lawyers.

Lawyers are known to be the nobleman of society with high-status respect and dignity. Legal professionals from the basis of every foundation of a society that protects the rights of every citizen.

It may come as a surprise but legal studies in India isn't a new faculty. Legal studies have been taught since the ancient period, right from the onset of the monarchy system. In Indian scriptures, legal studies were more about models and ethics known as Dharma and Nyaya. It was during the Mughal emperorship that formal representatives were produced. Legal representation came into the limelight especially during the independence era where freedom fighters were given the moral chance to represent their case.

The objective of the Faculty of Legal Studies are as follows:


  • To bring the legal profession to solve cases in an ethical manner
  • To participate and improve the overall structure of society
  • To inculcate candidates to attend adequate experiences in the field of law and apply rules for future development.
  • To broaden the perception of the society by influencing moral attitude and value
  • To let students generate legal knowledge and practical skills to take up the legal task of the society
  • To increase opportunity and safe mobility in society among diversified groups and marginalized individuals/community

Why are legal Studies important?

Legal studies may seem like a broad concept but it is the profession that is practised in the court of law. Legal studies are a completely law-oriented curriculum and a research-based branch that plays a pivotal role in making law professionals. Law ensures to provide equality and justice to all the citizens. There is no way that in a democratic society legal education can be termed as overemphasized.


Legal studies aren't just about learning the law. It is much more than that. It opens up an entire dimension of a very dynamically animated world. There are a lot of interdisciplinary subjects, courses, themes that one could thoroughly enjoy.

For example: "Gender and Society". It is a known fact that gender is a spectrum. Women are fighting for equality in a highly patriarchal society. Knowing about gender roles and gender representation in the society one can be committed to paving a path for gender equality in this country where lawyers can legally protect their fundamental right by exposing unethical treatment and their suppression in this country. The same goes with cross-border trade, international finances and businesses where one could find a career if the interest pursues.

The legal study is a quintessential pillar of a very diverse democracy of India. It is a mirror to critically analyze the society, its culture, the human behavioural pattern, and also plays a very introspective part in exploring the implications of law and society. Legal studies are all about logic, language, Indian constitution, Indian history and India's representation in the world of the legal system by exploring social sciences.



AUS and Legal Studies


The Faculty of Legal Studies at Arunachal University of Studies has a very modern approach concerning legal research and methodology. Within the faculty, the professors and lecturers ensure to take extra efforts to develop very strong communication skills, organizational skills, reasoning skills and observational skills of a student to become the best professional in the field of law. AUS offers multiple internship programs by the end of the course to boost every student's practical exposure and offer quality time to nurture their legal interest in whichever specialized area they wish to pursue their career.

The objective of the department is to devote time and attention to every student pursuing any degree from the Faculty of Legal Studies. Arunachal University of Studies wishes to develop a national character in society with effective teaching. Here every student gets a deeper insight into the legal system of the country with a brighter context of ways and forms of legal education. This is attained by thoroughly analyzing opportunities and observations right from the historical present and the future the perspective revolving around the law.
The teaching methodology here at The Faculty of Legal Studies acknowledges subjects of law and disciplines for the ethical practice of law professionally keeping all the socio-cultural diversity of the country in mind. The department is aware that legal education forms a very important pillar of imparting justice in this modern time, especially when lawyers are considered social engineers of the nation. Modern approaches are constantly being taken to increase the value of syllabus in which students are exposed to subjects and courses that skill them enough and impart professionalism when the time is needed. More practical based curriculum is imparted on students where the reasoning skills are shaped to enhance the level of understanding of the subject concerned.






  • The Indian Constitution has 444 articles divided in 22 parts, with 12 schedules and 118 amendments, with 146,385 words. This makes the Indian Constitution the largest in the world.
  • Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, was the responsible chairman to draft the Indian Constitution.
  • Indian democracy recognizes 9 fundamental rights as the basic human rights and this was adopted from the American Constitution.
  • In a helium filled case, the original hand written copies are kept secured at the Library of The Parliament House.
  • The Indian Constitution was signed by the 283 members of the constituent assembly.
  • The Programme under the Faculty of Legal Studies, is approved by UGC and Bar Council of India.


Legal studies

After completion of legal studies there are multiple options to choose from with respect to employability. One can practice law or pursue higher studies depending on the kind of financial requirements and career desires.

Corporate lawyer - This profession ensures that every corporate firm functions by abiding by the laws. The main objective of being a corporate lawyer is to ensure that the company adheres to all the legal policies and social obligations.

Legal Advisor - This profession offers legal counseling to both private and corporate firms.

Litigator - This profession solely deals with crimes and disputes. These lawyers are the legal representative of the client and fight for justice. As a litigator a professional should be well learned and experienced to take a stand of the client’s case.

Human rights lawyers - This profession deals with sensitive issues prevailing in the society. Human right issues could be from the environment, animal welfare to gender rights etc. Considered as one of the noblest professions, a human right lawyer must be empathetic and highly confident to bring the case to justice.

Legal publishing - This profession enables an individual to write article blogs and work for the legal world. One can either become a writer and write books or can broadcast content or multiple platforms such as radio, TV, newspaper.
