WHAT ARE THE LEGAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT OF AUS UPTO THIS OCTOBER?

In the month of October, the students from the Department of Legal Studies have done various activities like Legal Awareness program, Door to Door Counselling and individual counselling, Skits and discussions on various legal issues and rights, in various villages of Namsai District, Arunachal Pradesh.


The details of the activities are as follows:


Activity 1:


Legal Aid Cell (LAC) Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai conducted a “Legal Awareness Programme” at Community Hall of Village Mahadevpur No.3.

The team comprised of 6 students, 1 faculty member along 5 PLVs from the Department of Legal Studies AUS reached the place of Namsai District. The place to be visited was Mahadevpur No. 3 Village.

The resource persons for the program were namely Mr. Shanglem Wangpan (PLV) and Miss. Tiyom Payum, Mr. Anirudha Deori, Mr. Chubrang Gamdre and Mr.Tasing Ngadong under the guidance of Mr. A R Pradhan (Asst. Professor).

PLV Mr. Shanglem Wangpan spoke about the Special Marriage Act, 1954, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and Protection of Child from Sexual Offence Act (POCSOA) 2012.

Then Miss. Tiyom Payum Spoke about the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) 1985 and many queries were put up by the villagers and satisfactory reply was responded by the resources person and PLV.
“Legal Aid Cell” Arunachal University of Studies (AUS) stands for it emphasised the DLSA and DLC and how it works for the needy one in terms of reaching us for their rights and demand justice.


Activity 2:


LAC (Legal Aid Cell) AUS (Arunachal University of Studies) NAMSAI has conducted door-to-door campaign for 1 day on 30.10.21(SATURDAY) at KABA VILLAGE.7(seven) Law Students of Arunachal university of Studies had participated in the doorto- door campaign, namely – ROCKY PAGAG, BORIS PAIT, MARLING TAMUK, OBANG TATING, LIYA KECHE, HABUNG TATUNG, JOREM ETE.


They have visited 8 houses in remote area of KABA VILLAGE and met 24 peoples and imparted the awareness on “Crime Against Women”and availability of “Free Legal Aid” with the help of questionnaire. All the house owners have welcome them with very positive response and assured them to spread the awareness about the availability of “Free Legal Aid”. Out of 24 peoples 22 peoples didn’t knew about many crimes which comes under “Crime Against Women”.


Activity 3:


On 31th Oct 2021, Arunachal university studies law dep students who are members as paralegal volunteers of the district legal services authority had been conducted a legal awareness programme at Kaichu Village venue Kaichu primary school by maintaining the covid sop. The programme started at 11:30 am one of the team members named nangloikham Namchoom gave an introduction to our team and a glimpse of our programme topic. At first team members Aman sha and chimang gave his presentation on the Right to education and speak about the act and real-life scenario of education status they discussed dropouts problems and had shared data on Arunachal Pradesh Education present status and concluded his topic by their suggestions and remedies. And then from 12:30 pm legal volunteer, Shalu linggi presented on Domestic violence related to the protection of women from domestic violence act there she mentioned the types of domestic violence, cause, remedies and informed about the helpline number where this can be reported in Banaai district and concluded. 

From 12:55 pm our team member Siga penbom started his presentation on overview related legal consequences of drugs addiction, he addressed the issue of today's youth drugs addiction and Explained about the NDPS act (narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances act 1985) and discussed the punishment related to this act and concluded his presentation by requesting all the parents to keep an eye on their children. After this from 1:20 pm volunteer, Milo linggi and his group perform a skit on child labour. And at the end, reproductive rights data was collected from the woman participants and a short documentary movie was shown on child abuse.
